James River Cellars started as a hobby and grew out of control! While on the hunt for the perfect Virginia Gewürztraminer, Ray Lazarchic decided that it may be easier to just make his own! He planted the vineyard on 20 acres of his farm in Montpelier, VA. The winery was open to the public in 2001 and is now owned and operated by Ray's daughter, Mitzi, and her husband, James. Ray now spends more time enjoying James River Cellars' wine and messing around in the flower beds.

With Mitzi's PhD in biochemistry, and James' degree in finance... it was only fitting for Mitzi to run the business while James makes the wine!

The goal of James River Cellars is to create a Virginia winery experience that is a refreshing change from the ordinary. A blend of urban convenience and quaint rural appeal, James River Cellars is a perfect location to stop by and enjoy a picnic on our beautifully landscaped patio or capture the view from our terrace.

Virginia’s first urban cidery, Blue Bee Cider, is located in the historic Scott’s Addition district of Richmond, VA. Our ciders are made with rare and heirloom Virginia apples prized for their tannin, acidity, and flavor.

One of Virginia’s native bees, the Blue Orchard Bee (osmia lignaria), provided the inspiration for our cidery’s name. These hardworking bees are solitary and wild, emerging early in the spring just in time to pollinate apple blossoms.

Courthouse Creek Cider is a family owned business. The farm, production facility, and first tasting room is located in Goochland County @ 1581 Maidens Rd. Courthouse Creek Cider produces fine Virginia cider, naturally. From pressing, to barrel, to bottle—they do it all themselves! They are also growers—maintaining a 4.5 acre orchard on the property. The second urban tasting room is located in thriving Scott’s Addition @ 3300 W. Broad Street. Courthouse Creek Cider is the only cidery in Virginia that adheres to a natural production technique. All ciders are fermented and/or aged in barrels and foeders. They don’t sulfite their ciders, nor filter or fine them. No chemicals are added to manipulate acid levels, color, or flavor. These methods result in complex and nuanced ciders that pair exquisitely with food that YOU can feel good about enjoying!
